Everyone loves a parade, right? This looks like a parade to me. Perhaps a 4th of July parade.
Not every picture is "picture perfect." Something went wrong with this one and the image was smeared.
I googled "G.B. Jones" shoes and found two mentions of a G.B. Jones of Waterville, NY in two trade magazines. The google hits were for 1905 and 1913 and have been attached below. If you wish to look through those trade magazines you can download them from books.google.com for free.
Some time over 30 years ago I bought a box of 4 x 5 inch glass plate negatives at the Morris Auction Gallery on a Friday night. I don't know where they came from.
Recently I bought a scanner that can illuminate negatives.
Julian Button has said that he recognizes the location of the photo with the three folks and the dog in the river -- facing east across the Chenango River. He thinks that the young man MIGHT be Franklin P. Moak (1852-1933). Frank's father, Ephraim was Town Supervisor of Sherburne in 1878. The series of scanned negatives goes up to 13. Some photos were taken prior to 1883 because the church tower was being completed and was dedicated in 1883. Does anyone have a labeled photo of the Moak family so we can compare?
Here's the first glass plate that I scanned. I will be getting more software to remove some of the speckles where the image has deteriorated.
Front and back of a postcard from a friend's attic. His sister went through a stamp collecting phase so the the stamp corner was torn off. The author of the postcard was on his way to Morris, but his vehicle, most likely an automobile, suffered a "busted" tire about 1 mile before Morris. The delay to fix the tire cost the traveler about 3 hours!

John Henry Weeks was a young man from Hartwick Seminary, NY. He fought in the Civil War and was awarded The Medal of Honor for an act which did not involve the death of a soldier on either side or even the firing of a rifle. You can look in the attached book or read the attached newspaper page to see an account of this incident.
