Chris Robinson Retires After 28 Years With Village of Morris DPW

Greetings Village of Morris Residents,

The Village Board is announcing the retirement of Chris Robinson on July 22, 2022.

Chris has been a loyal and valuable Village employee for the past 28 years and the
Village will miss Chris immensely.

The Village Board would appreciate, if you see
Chris, to please take the time to wish him well.

28 years?

That takes us back to 1994. Bill Clinton was president and Jeff Bezos founded Amazon. Pro baseball canceled the World Series. Web browsers come into being on the internet. In Morris, long time hardware store owner Glenn McWilliams passed away.

Some big events during Chris's time with DPW were the floods in the village.

1996 saw a flood caused by ice in the winter.

Excessive rain caused floods in 2000, 2006, 2011, and 2021. They all caused headaches clearing the village streets. You may recall that the flood of 2000 was so severe that the bridge on North Broad St. was destroyed. Repair was out of the question. It had to be replaced. The 2021 flood put tons of mud on Main St and moved huge concrete blocks along Silver Creek by the village barns.

Chris has worked under four different village mayors.

Henry Rehrmann
Robert Todd
David Rockwell
Mike Newell

He has been out more dark snowy mornings clearing roads and sidewalks than any of us could count. When the white snow finally goes away he deals with the green snow that some call grass.

Recycling and trash removal take two mornings a week.

Chris was the operator of the water system and oversaw installing a meter for every client in the village and then rebuilding the system in 2015-2016. He declares a boil water order if it is needed and sends message over the robot phoning system he learned to operate.

In the village the number of people he supplied this population.

WATER CUSTOMERS
A. About 266 Customers (Residential, Commercial, School, & Fair Grounds)
B. About 642 People Served
C. About 320 Equivalent Dwelling Units (EDUs)

Chris has been helpful pretty much all his life. The newspaper Chris is holding is the March 2, 1971 edition of The Daily Star of Oneonta, NY. You can see the whole front page below. There had been a bombing in the US Capitol the day before.

He was the Morris Fire Chief in 1991, too.
