MORRIS - Dr. Howard W. Naylor, 81, founder of H. W. Naylor Co of Morris and for many years a leading veteri. marian in Otsego County, died May 19 at Fox Hospital, following a prolonged illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Zion Episcopal Church here, with the Rev. William T. Matthers, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery.
Dr. Naylor was born Dec. 17, 1887 in Morris, son of Charles H. and Jane (Herring) Naylor. He graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine of Cornell University in 1913, and practiced veterinary medicine for a number of years in Morris and the surrounding area.
He married Dorothy Russell in El Paso, Texas, June 10, 1914.
In 1928, Dr. Naylor invented the dilator which since has been used extensively in the medication of dairy cattle, and founded the company which has become internationally known as the manufacturer of veterinary products and medications for the dairy industry.
He was a member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association; New York State and Catskill District Veterinary Associations; Utica Lodge, F&AM; Ziyara Shrine of Utica; Otsego Commandery, Cooperstown; Tienuderah Lodge of the Hillington Chapter of Morris and Morris American Legion Post. He also was a former member of the Board of Directors of Oneonta Country Club, Oneonta Lodge BPO Elks, and Morris Rotary Club.
Besides his wife, at home, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alma Naylor Elliott, Morris, two grandsons, Howard Elliott, Cooperstown; John Elliott, Morris.
Funeral arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Home of Oneori ta, where there will be no calling hours prior to the service.

Dorothy R. Naylor
MORRIS – Dorothy Russell Naylor, 91, of Naylor Road, Morris, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
She was born Dec. 6, 1890, in El Paso, Texas, the daughter of Ernest and Marcia (Spurr) Russell. She married Howard W. Naylor June 10, 1914, in El Paso. He died in May of 1969.
She had been employed as a teacher in El Paso and also at Cornell University, Ithaca. She and her husband founded and operated the H.W. Naylor Company of Morris for many years.
She was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church, Morris.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alma Elliott, Morris; two grandsons, Howard Elliott, Morris, and John Elliott, Laurens; three great-grandsons; three nieces.
Memorial services are 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, at the Zion Episcopal Church, Morris, with the Rev. Robert Witt Jr., officiating.
Cremation was made at Waterville Crematory.

Charles H. Naylor was born in Laurens, Otsego County, in 1855. His father, a farmer of the northwestern corner of the town, was born in England, and when an infant was bought to the United states by his father, who was a marble cutter, and who died in either Hartwick or New Lisbon about 1841, in the prime of life. He had by his first wife one son and one daughter, George and Jane, and by his second marriage had also one son and one daughter. The only chilren now living of
these four are; GeorgeNaylor, the father of Charlesh, and a sister of his, namely, Jane, widow of hiram brownell, living with her brother. The mother of Charles H. Naylor was Caroline Eldred, of Otsego county, and a daghter of Charles Eldred. The parents of our subject had seven children, five sons and two daughters, of whom they have buried one son and one daughter, the daughter dying at theage of four years. William T. Naylor died in Otego, in September, 1889, aged thirty.five, leaving a wife and one son. The children living are: Charles H, the subject of this sketch Legrand M, a farmer and carpenter of Oneonta; who is thirty-three years old, and has a wife and two daughters; George L, a farmer and extensive dairyman, of Chenango County, N. Y. ; Hattie J., wife of James Harrington, of Iowa; and Nelson, a single man of twenty years, at home on the farm with his father.
Charles H. Naylor was reared at home on thefarm to farm life, and to some extent neglected the opportunities that were his for securing an education. When he was seventeen years old he left home, and worked out by the month in the summer time. At the age of twenty-one he was married ak to Miss Jennie Herring, a daughter of James Herring, and who was born
in Laurens. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Naylor began life on their present farm, renting for nine years, and buying in the spring 1888. Here they have 222 acres of land, 175 of which are under cultivation. The purchase price was $25 per acre. The greater part of the present large
brick house was built by Stephen H. Wing. It is a two-story house of thirt een large rooms, with a fine ample cellar underneath. Mr. Naylor built over and added to the barn, whichis now 40 x 92 FEET, with twenty-one foot posts, and is handsomely painted. This barn will stall thirty head of cattle and five horses. Mr. Naylor keeps twenty-five cows of the Jersey and Guern sey breedss Some of these cows average 290 pounds of butter, and this afte
r the family butter has been taken out. There are few dairies that have a high record. Mr. and Mrs. Naylor have buried one son, Fred, at two years of age; Graciee at five years, and Harry at one year. They now have one son and one daughter living, Florence a miss of ten, and Howard, five years old.
Mr. Naylor is a Democrat in politics; he is a member of the Society of Friends. He is a good citizen and neighbor, and has the respect and x confidence of his fellowmen to a high degree.

MORRIS - Alma Naylor Elliott died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at her home in Morris.
She was born March 26, 1916, the daughter of Dr. Howard W. and Dorothy Russell Naylor of Morris,
She graduated from Morris Central School and Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. She then managed the Cavalier Hotel Beach Club in Virginia Beach, Va., until she married Francis R. Elliott in 1941.
Alma returned to Morris and joined her father in his veterinary pharmaceutical business while Fran served in World War
II.
Alma was involved in the management of the H.W. Naylor Co. for more than 40 years, serving for several years as president.
Alma loved Morris and was very active in community affairs. She was a Cub Scout leader and den mother, and was also very active in the Morris School PTA and the American Legion Auxiliary. Alma was the first woman to serve on the Morris Central School Board of Education and the first to serve on the Vestry of Zion Episcopal Church.
Alma enjoyed traveling and was able to make trips throughout the United States and to several overseas countries. She was never daunted by the multiple sclerosis that she battled for much of her adult life. In her last years Alma was grateful that she could stay in her own home due to the loving assistance and caregiving of Vicky Miller, Sue Zock, Amanda Cimko, Kathy Weisenbarger and Melodie Griffin, and the ever-compassionate and vigilant care of Jim Herbert, F.N.P.
Alma is survived by her eldest son, Howard Elliott, and his wife, Eileen, of Morris; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Elliott of West Laurens; and three very dear grandsons, Brian Elliott and his wife, Hope, of Charlotte, N.C., John N. Elliott and his fiancee, Amy Lageman, of York, Pa., and Nathan Elliott of Worcester, Mass. She is also survived by her dear brother-in-law, Edward Elliott of Morris; and her nephew and nieces, Lynn Elliott of Cedar City, Utah, Julie French of New Hartford and Jamie Johnson of West Oneonta. Three special cousins also survive her, Marcia Wilber of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Polly Winroth of Aloha, Ore., and Edith Pierson of Eliot, Maine.
Alma was predeceased by her dear son, John R. Elliott, in 1999, and her former husband, Francis, in 1976.
At Alma's request, her body was cremated at the Hillington Crematory.
A memorial service will be held at Zion Episcopal Church in Morris on Monday, July 3.
